We just finished our first ever convention in Oklahoma and overall had a great time! TokenCon was a super well organized event, offering a full weekend of tabletop, board gaming and cool events which made for an unforgettable weekend adventure! While there were a lot of highs, there were also a lot of difficulties on this journey as well.

Games Are King

A gaming convention is nothing without...well the games themselves, and there was no shortage of them to be played! This year there was over 8000 sq.ft. of gaming space alone and a game library of over 1000 games that anyone could check out and play for free! We also got to meet Roberta Taylor who is the game designer for Creature Comforts and Maple Valley, which are family friendly games that are super adorable.

Sadly since I was dealing with a major gout attack (which is terribly painful arthritis if you haven't heard of it), mobility was an issue so I couldn't get around to playing as many games as I wanted. I did however get a chance to check out Mantle of the Keeper, which is a card based fantasy skirmish game developed by StrongBox Games. It is a pretty awesome PVP battle game that takes around 30 minutes or so to play and supports up to 4 players. I also got a chance to check out Para, which is a tarot card based TTRPG system from Eerie games. I love the idea of using tarot cards instead of dice, and the setting has a really awesome haunting vibe that I just adore!

Your Favorite Roasts

If you checked out our Genghis Con Recap, you will remember that Rogue and Barbarian were the top roasts of that event. TokenCon however was very different! At this event, Druid was a hit, being the first roast to sell out! Right behind it were Paladin and Rogue which were almost as popular but thankfully were able to stick around longer on Sunday before disappearing.

The other super popular item this weekend were our Mugs which sold out completely by mid-day on Saturday. It is always one of my favorite things being able to walk, or in my case this weekend hobble, around an event and see Dragon Roast Coffee mugs and tumblers at so many game tables. I love being a part of this community so much!

Vendors To Check Out

Just like every convention there are always so many talented vendors we get to meet. I can't highlight everyone here but wanted to shout out a few cool vendors that we connected with. ALSO make sure you check out StrongBox Games and Eerie Games that I mentioned up above!

Spraycan Games is an up-and-coming games studio that is launching their game "Woven" on Kickstarter soon! This is a story based RPG with ad-lib elements that I got to check out and had a great time with. They have some really interesting games on the horizon and I absolutely LOVE their aesthetic.

Jibber Jabble is a simple to pick up card game that is excellent for parties or ice-breakers. It is a cooperative word game where players are trying to lead one person to guess what the secret word is while different powers and abilities can lead everyone spiraling down the wrong path. This one was a lot of fun and I am happy I picked it up, check them out!

Kawna Minis is a creator of really adorable miniatures, primarily focusing on their line of "Adventure Cats". Their miniatures are super high quality and extremely adorable. They have other minis available but their primary characters they make are cute cats that I just loved. I also know they sell their STL files online if you wanted to print your own.

Perils Along Our Journey

As I eluded to at the start of this recap, this convention came with it some evil forces that were trying to, unsuccessfully, ruin our adventure. First, on the morning of my trip to Oklahoma I woke up with a terrible gout attack. Gout is a fiendish curse that essentially renders your bones useless for around 2-7 days. While extremely painful, generally if I can rest for a couple of days and not walk it will clear up BUT this was a convention weekend, I wasn't letting a silly curse stop me!

We also got attacked by the dark forces of bank account fraud. On Saturday, someone was able to gain access to our business account and drained it...completely. This of course is not ideal when you are out in another state, which lead to some creative thinking from the Dragon Roast Coffee team to make sure everything has been able to continue to function. There is an ongoing investigation to figure out who did this so justice can be served. Stupid money demons.

Now at this point you must be thinking 'Surely nothing else bad happened right?!" and sadly you would be wrong. On the final day of my adventure, while eating a delicious yogurt covered almond, someone cast "Shatter" on one of my teeth. Yes, one of my teeth completely destroyed itself. It isn't the end of the world, just means I will have to visit the local dental clerics for some healing, but it still sucks! If I find out which trickster irresponsibly used magic at this event, they will be set ablaze!

Onward To The Next Event!

TokenCon overall was an absolutely amazing time! I also wanted to give a huge shoutout to all of the event staff and volunteers that helped out and made the convention extra special. Oklahoma treated us well and I look forward to returning again on our journeys. For now though, we are preparing for our next adventure on to the Great Plains Gaming Festival in Nebraska! I look forward to meeting some of you there.
