Level Up! New Full Color Bags Are Here

Greetings adventurers, this update has been a long time in the making and today we are so excited to show off our new full color printed bags! Check out our promo video here!
We have wanted to move to printed bags for quite some time but it wasn't possible until now. This post is going to go over all the hurdles involved with moving to our new packaging as well as detailing all the info surrounding them.
Meet Our New Bags
So first off, check out the awesome glory that is our new packaging! Not only do the new bags offer much more space for full artwork, but they also allow us to fit a lot more information on them that you get to enjoy. Each bag is printed in full color based on the character class and are printed in super-matte ink which means they wont smudge and are easier to write on which makes all our kobolds in the shop happy! The bag materials themselves are also made of an even higher quality mylar so you shouldn't ever have to worry about torn zippers or bag tearing!
The new bags aren't just gorgeous, they also offer a lot more information on them as well! On one side of the bag you will notice there is more information on each roast profile including; roast level, body, acidity and processing method. This is all extra information that will help you decide which coffee is the right one for your next adventure! On the other side of the bag we have information on the region and farm that the beans come from and, in some cases, information on the unique processing method involved as well. We are super proud of the relationships we have been able to establish with the farms we work with and this is a really great way to share some of that information with you.
The back of the bags have the same information as the current packaging but with more printable surface area. We were also able to increase the font size and make them easier to read. The bottom of the bags now features the date that your coffee was roasted as well, so you can be sure that you always get the freshest dragon-roasted coffee around!
Power Comes With A Price
As I mentioned before, we have wanted to switch to full color printed bags for a while but it wasn't feasible until now. The big hurdle is that in order to get custom printed packaging like this manufactured you need to meet fairly high "Minimum Order Quantities" or "MOQs" in order to have them made. There are also price breaks for packaging so the more you order of each design, the cheaper they cost per bag. This means that if you order for instance 1000 bags, each bag will cost more than if you order 10,000 of each design.
While we were just launching the company last year and growing, we didn't have the capacity or funds to meet these high MOQs which meant it was too far out of reach for us but now that we have grown, we were able to make the leap! While it was a huge up-front investment, it actually makes each bag cheaper in the long run versus the plain black bags with two labels on them...which is a great segue to the next important point about the new packaging.
Everything Is Too Expensive
As we mentioned in our recent blog on Tariffs and rising prices, eggs aren't the only things that have gotten too expensive. We have seen an astronomical increase in prices of everything from unroasted coffee beans, to packaging, to shipping materials, shipping prices and even things like our enamel pins we bring to cons as well as our materials for the merch we make. Literally every single price of everything we use has drastically increased over the past few months. Some of the coffees we use have literally DOUBLED in cost per pound, meaning our profit margins have shrunk dramatically. We made a commitment to not increase any of our prices in all of 2024 but at the start of this year we needed to adapt to the current economic climate or face extinction.
We spent all of January analyzing our prices, profit margins and every piece of financial data we could to come up with the best solution to the problem. Coffee prices have gotten so high that we actually LOSE money on our Druid and Necromancer roasts if someone uses their 10% code for joining our newsletter (which you should do by the way!) and sadly we knew if this kept going we wouldn't be able to survive. After diving deep into analytics we found we had 3 options.
- We could raise the price of all of our coffee by $5-6+ a bag. This is what most companies would do and you will definitely notice a trend of more and more coffee companies being over that $25 a bag mark, but it just isn't something that felt right. We definitely want to keep our prices as low as we can even if it means we don't make as much, as long as we can keep making a profit enough to operate and grow.
- We could reduce our bag sizes from 12oz to 10oz. If you notice, our new packaging brings with it our new bag sizes of 10oz. Smaller bag sizes have become the trend in specialty coffee already with many roasters such as Onyx Coffee Labs, Hex, Heart Roasters, Prodigal, Corvus Coffee, Little Owl, and so many more. It is becoming more and more common to see 8oz and 10oz bags of single-origin coffee being sold and this is what we decided to do moving forward to help keep costs down for YOU the consumer.
- The last option was we could go out of business but that didn't seem nearly as fun.
Our new packaging being cheaper per bag as well as reducing our bag sizes helps us keep prices down as well as increasing our profit margins enough to where we can keep growing, developing new roasts, going to events and doing all the awesome stuff we have planned for this year and beyond!
